The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK's largest independent producer of official statistics. It is responsible for collecting and publishing data related to the economy, population, and society at national, regional, and local levels. This includes key economic statistics such as GDP and inflation, as well as data on population, employment, earnings, health, and migration. The ONS also conducts the census in England and Wales every ten years.

The ONS is an executive agency of the UK Statistics Authority, which is responsible for promoting and safeguarding the production and publication of official statistics. The ONS is independent of ministers and reports directly to Parliament. Its work is vital for informing policy decisions, understanding societal trends, and supporting evidence-based decision-making.
